Florida Declares War on Human Trafficking – With $900K and a Whole Lot of Determination!

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida has officially cranked its anti-human-trafficking efforts up to beast mode!

With a fresh $900,000 in grant funding for law enforcement, new toolkits, and some serious "don't mess with us" energy, the state is putting traffickers on notice: Florida is coming for you!

DCF Secretary Shevaun Harris and FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass stood side by side with researchers and advocates to unveil a treasure trove of new resources designed to help spot, report, and shut down human trafficking operations.

And let’s be real—if you’re a trafficker in Florida right now, it’s time to start considering a career change.

Florida's Anti-Trafficking Power-Up:

  • Child Welfare Human Trafficking Identification Assessment – Now with extra crime-fighting clarity! This tool will help child protective investigators sniff out shady situations faster than a bloodhound at a barbecue.
  • Community Human Trafficking Identification Guide – A toolkit designed with actual experts (looking at you, University of South Florida) to help teachers, doctors, and other professionals recognize and report trafficking like pros.
  • A sleek new website – Because stopping crime should be as easy as ordering pizza online.

Where's the Money Going?

The $900K jackpot is being spread across multiple law enforcement agencies, including FDLE, Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Bonifay Police Department, Miramar Police Department, Daytona Beach, Clay County, and Escambia County. Basically, Florida just handed these agencies a stack of cash and a mission: "Go get 'em."

FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass didn’t mince words:
"Human traffickers are some of society’s most heinous criminals. FDLE and our partners work tirelessly to track down and arrest these monsters who mistakenly think Florida won't bring the full force of the law down on them."

Spoiler alert: Florida will.

More Beds, More Help, More Justice

Florida already has 47 beds for child trafficking survivors and 97 for adults, but thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis' $4.9 million boost, an additional 48 emergency beds are on the way. Because if Florida is serious about stopping human trafficking (and it clearly is), survivors need real support—not just a pat on the back and a hotline number.

So, What Can YOU Do?

If something seems sketchy, trust your gut. Call the Florida Trafficking Hotline at 1-855-FLA-SAFE (1-855-352-7233) to report suspicious activity. You can remain anonymous—so no excuses!

Florida is setting the bar high for anti-trafficking efforts nationwide.

And if traffickers thought they could operate here undetected, well…they just got a very expensive, very public reality check.
